What's Included?

Seasonal Āyurveda Cleanses are nourishing yet detoxifying reset. During this time of year, there is a lot of change and movement - as seen in the wind and nature all around. When there is change, the body is most susceptible to illnesses and imbalances. After a few weeks into Spring (within the Northern Hemisphere) accumulated cold and sticky waste from winter diets needs to thaw and get safely flushed. The transition from cold to heat means digestive strength naturally declines.

Now that or organs do not need as much protection from the cold, energy moves to the channels of the skin and away from our centers for breaking down heavy meals. Thus, you might start to feel heavy as accumulated waste and toxicity try to make their way to the gastrointestinal tract. To alleviate the heaviness, we can reset our metabolism to shift its function from building (from the winter), to shedding (for the summer).

FAQs

What is kitchari?

Kitchari is a staple food in India. Made traditionally, Kitchari is extremely easy to digest, thus, in Āyurveda it is used to clean and clear the digestive system and cleanse the body of accumulated toxins.

The traditional recipe consists of white basmati rice, split mung beans, and spices - together we have a warming complete protein meal that is delicious and detoxifying. Intentionally prepared in this way without other ingredients, it acts as medicine - detoxifying us and helping us to return to our natural state of balancing.

NOTE - Sometimes the kitchari will be more like a porridge depending on your current presentation. Remember, this is not a one sized fits all pill.

What is a Ayurvedic cleanse?

This cleanse is centered around Kitchari, the staple food in India. Made traditionally, Kitchari is extremely easy to digest, thus, in Āyurveda it is used to clean and clear the digestive system and cleanse the body of accumulated toxins.

To ensure the body can absorb all the essential nutrients kitchari offers, we enjoy it as a mono diet (meaning as our meal 3x a day) for 5 days straight. This mono diet comes after an intentional 5 day an anti - inflammatory diet and is surrounded by self - care rituals that work to bring the nervous system into the parasympathetic nervous system (also referred to as  'rest and digest').

This way - the body can let go of what we are cleansing! Plus - we add a 3 berry herb blend call Triphala to gently usher out accumulated toxins.

What is The Congee (kanji) & The Kitchari? Why so much "carbs"?

Congee is extremely easy to digest so in āyurveda it is used to purify the body. Traditionally congee is made from plain, aged, white basmati rice. It can also include more ingredients, used in proper sequence to strengthen, tone, rebuild from as optimal of a foundation as possible.

Kitchari has more ingredients and spices. Kitchari translates similarly to ‘mixture’ or ‘mess’, blending basmati rice, split mung beans, and spices. Having congee and kitchari in proper sequence is how we can use food as “medicine”. It is much heavier and harder to digest than congee. This is why we first stoke metabolic function so that when kitchari comes in, the body is primed to assimlate the nutrients instead of produce more waste. In this way we have the tools to actually get stronger.

This kind of mono diet is beneficial for a metabolic reset because they provide easy-to-digest, nutrient-dense meals that support the digestive system's rest and repair. Eating more carbohydrates in this context is helpful because carbs, particularly in their whole, simple forms (like the low glycemic indexed aged white basmati rice plus lentils), provide steady energy and aid in balancing blood sugar levels. This allows the body to focus on detoxification and metabolic healing without the stress of complex digestion or blood sugar fluctuations, fostering a balanced and reset metabolism. In this way, waste can make its way into portal circulation for proper and safe flushing.
