FAQ

What is a Dosha? And how do i Discover it?

Dosha = Substance/ element that exist in nature as well as in you that tends to go out of balance. Which element(s) tend to go out of balance depends on your unique mind & body DNA, makeup, shape, experiences, etc. These elements (recognized in Ayurveda as air, either, earth, water, fire), when in excess or when deficient can create imbalances in the body, just like they can create disorder in nature.

These substances come together to create doshas known as Vata (Air + Space), Pitta (Fire + Water), and Kapha (Earth + Water). You have ALL of the elements within you. However, depending on your unique makeup will depend on which element(s) require more attention to avoid a doshic imbalance.

What is kitchari?

Kitchari is a staple food in India. Made traditionally, Kitchari is extremely easy to digest, thus, in Āyurveda it is used to clean and clear the digestive system and cleanse the body of accumulated toxins.

The traditional recipe consists of white basmati rice, split mung beans, and spices - together we have a warming complete protein meal that is delicious and detoxifying. Intentionally prepared in this way without other ingredients, it acts as medicine - detoxifying us and helping us to return to our natural state of balancing.

What is ayurvedic medicine?

Āyurveda is the oldest known medical system as well as the most holistic/inclusive medical system. It was birthed in India and has the same roots as yoga and many forms of meditation. These practices of which were outlined in ancient texts called The Vedas, written about over least 4,000 years ago.

In Sanskrit, the word ayus means ‘life’ and veda means ‘knowledge’. Āyurveda is about using the wisdom of life, inclusive of every part of human experience, to help you manage how the senses cultivate that which leads to our health. This includes diet, movement (exercise), environment, behavior, relationships, our life's purpose, and career, to cultivate a vital and harmonious life.

If imbalance does arise in the body and mind, Ayurveda offers a diagnostic system to identify the root cause of the dis-ease. It also provides a treatment plan inclusive of dietary and lifestyle protocols, cleansing tools, herbal remedies, and bodywork so that you can return to homeostasis - which is a state of health.

What does "nature" have to do with Ayurveda and digestive health?

In Ayurveda, we recognize that everything in the material world is made up of a combination of essential materials - this includes your body and your organs. The way that these materials are arranged varies creating different forms of matter, substance, and elements.

According to Sushruta, father of Āyurvedic surgery and author of Sushruta Samita:

"In man, as in everything else in the universe, the direction of the inherent force is from the centre to the circumference. The shock is felt first at the center of vitality, whence it is transmitted outwards and thus affects the energy which holds the molecules together, dvyanuka and tryanuka (binary and tertiary atoms) of which the physical body is composed, and further opposes the dissolution of those molecules into their elemental constituents in the living organism...
In all diseases the subjective sensations are the first to be experienced. ‘I am ill’, ‘I feel hot’, etc., are the voices of sensations, which form the basis of the disease."

Thus - we allow sensations and symptoms to guide us in understanding what is occurring internally. Then, when it is necessary to come back into a balancing state, we look to other elements in nature to borrow the qualities necessary for homeostasis.

Why do you focus so much on digestion?

Digestion nourishes blood. Blood feeds your body. Furthermore, need healthy blood to nourish your organs. This blood however, can't be nourished without healthy digestion and a healthy diet. Indigestion on the other hand and poor food choices create fermentation & toxicity which weakens your entire body. Poor quality food choices lead to poor quality blood and organ health. That's why, for over 5,000 years, Ayurveda has believed that diet and digestion is the first step to health.

When there is a problem with your intestines, it creates a problem in your whole body. Fortunately, your intestines are modified skin and just like skin, your gut has the capacity to heal quickly. However, even though healing digestion is theoretically easy, the reality can be tricky (as seen by the constant cycling of crash diets and a plea for quick fixes with medication). Ayurveda has a 5,000 year old approach to navigate the tricky situations that arise in restoring gut health and Vern's Balancing Paige has modern modifications to implement that align with today's way of life.

What does the Balancing Method process look like?

After 8 years of trial, error, and studies, Veronica has come up with a method to consolidate 8 years of healing into 1. The way it is delivered is through (4) 90-Day sprits, each aligning with the season you are currently (both in terms of your physical season and you environment's season).

Each 90-Day period dances through a moderation of the A.P.P.P.L.E. process:

🍎
  • Accept and Appreciate -- (This means diving into your unique dosha & ayurvedic medicine)
    A

🍎
  • Purpose -- (Why are you here on this planet, how can this season support that with grace?)
    P

🍎
  • Practice -- (Remove generations of unhealthy habits, these are the reps we get to put in!)
    P

🍎
  • Poop -- (Let's flush down that BS - cleanse time! There are 2 critical times to cleanse, Spring & Fall. Then we have more mild/maintinace like re-sets.)
    P
🍎
  • Level Up -- (Nourish your unique body, mind, spirit through a mix of Eastern and modern day practices.)
    L

🍎
  • Expand -- (After reaching the momentary zenith, you get to choose a new summit. Sometimes this looks like new herbs, financial freedom, soul work (career), relationships, seasonal integrations, there are no limits!!)
    E

Within each 90-Day sprint we meet virtually every other week and connect through accountability methods throughout

There will be balancing work (like homework) for you to participate in so that you start to really understand what your body is telling you.

These 90-Day are designed to set you up for 9 years, 90 years, for a lifetime and beyond!

How often do we meet during a Balancing Method program?

At least 6 times over zoom meetings plus through video message accountability for real time integration support. This is set up so that you actually know what it is like to live your life with these tools.

Optional: For those who choose to go all in with this work will also have 3 bodywork sessions and a 1 week in person integration retreat with me in South America.
